Experimental Study of the Effect of the Surgical Knife Injury on the Nerve Vessel

Abstract
Author wrote the report about the result of the histo-pathological observation of the change of nerves ani vesseles injuried artifically. Author used white rats and their body weight were about 2)3mg. After Author anesthetized the white rat by injection into abdominal cavity with pentobarbital sodium (25mg/kg). Exposured the sciatic nerve and femoral vein and then I divided white rats into two groups: in one group they, were ligated and in another group they were cut. Rats were sacrified after I day, 3 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, and 4 weeks. Author made tissue specimens with a common methol and H-E double stain. After observation of specimens, I obtained the conclusion as following As;
1. In the nerve ligation group the myelin sheath swelled and the axonal fiber was broken or degenerated to show the Wallerian degeneration figure but with the passage of time, instead of proliferation of Schwann cell, nerve fiber disappered. In the end of 4th ¢¥week, a few myelin sheath appeared again and the axonal fiber appeared in part, so they showed the revival figure of nerve fiberes in part.
2. In the nerve-cut group, severe inflammation appearance of the epineurium and the perineurium was shown aai because of inflammatory response changes of nerve fiber were created. So to speak, in the early days of experiment neutrophilic polymorphonuclear leukocyts infiltrated in the epineurium and the perineurium, and changes of myelin sheath and axonal fiber was small, but the inflammatory cell infiltrated gradually in the nerve fiber. So nerve fibers were destroyed, on the contrary Schwann cell proliferated severly.
3. In the vessel ligation group, in the early days of experiment disappearance of endothelial cells of vessel production of emboli in the lumen of vessel necrosis of tunica media and acute inflammatory infiltration appearance of tunica adventitia were shown. With the passage of the time, as changes were progressed the production of granulation tissue around the tunica adventitia was shown.
4. In the vessel-cut group with similarity to ligation group destruction and necrosis of vessels wall were appeared in the more rapid progression. The production of emboli was shown but after 1 week the appearance of revival was shown. After 2 weeks and 4 weeks, there were many cases that I could observed as the near normal state.
